Translucent Vellum

Four major brands of the finest vellum available.
A specialty paper with a hard non-porous surface and a translucent see-thru character.
This is a large page with lots of scans -- it may take some time to load.

Translucence is determined by the type of paper, the color, and the weight.
The samples above are three different weights of Gilclear White.
The lighter the weight, the more translucent the paper.

Do You Want to Print Vellum on Your Printer?
If you have a color inkjet printer, you'll want to try Chartham 30# High Resolution for an overlay,
or Glama 40# Color Ink Jet as a lightweight cardstock. These seem to work best.
Please set each sheet aside to dry for about a minute as it comes off your printer.
For laser printing or photocopying, you can usually use practically anything else that's 24# or heavier,
but try not to heat it too much as vellum tends to crinkle when it gets hot.
If you're printing black ink ONLY, most of the time you can use a non-inkjet compatible vellum
with good results, but this is not guaranteed.

Scotch Vellum Tape -- $7.40 Tired of Adhesives That Show Through the Vellum? Here's a critique from Melinda Doster, one of our convention demo artists: "Scotch Vellum Tape is the solution for which we've all been waiting. It enables us to cleanly mount vellum on top of other papers. Most other adhesives will show through the vellum, leaving unattractive areas and detracting from the beauty of the artist's work. The 3M Scotch Vellum Tape does not show through on most papers, allowing the artwork itself to be the attention-getter. "You don't have to use much. Just put a small piece in each corner of your vellum and maybe one in the middle. Burnish it down with your finger (it has a protective backing), then peel the backing off and mount to your base card."
